After the 2019 edition, the International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM) is back with more bite and new features. The official announcement was made on Tuesday in Rabat, during a press briefing hosted by MM. Mohammed Sadiki (Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests), Jaouad Chami (General Commissioner of SIAM), Noureddine Boutayeb (President of the Association of the International Agricultural Show of Morocco ) and Simon Martin (Ambassador of the United Kingdom whose country is the guest of honor at the 15th edition of SIAM).

Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, under the theme “Green Generation: For sustainable food sovereignty”, SIAM 2023 is being held from May 2 to 7, 2023 and it is thinking big by inviting the United Kingdom as a country in the spotlight. Especially since Great Britain and Morocco have maintained a historic cooperation of three centuries, both at the diplomatic and commercial level, consolidated over time, with the ratification of a new cooperation agreement in December 2021.

Strategic Sector of an Agreement

An agreement that covers strategic sectors for both countries, such as agriculture. For the record, the United Kingdom is the 1st European producer of sheep and goats, 3rd producer of cereals, milk and 6th agricultural producer in Europe with an agricultural production of 27.3 billion GBP in 2019. While for its part, Morocco is today the hub of Africa with a booming agriculture supported and energized by the Green Morocco Plan. The United Kingdom is among the top ten foreign investors in the country. It is also Morocco’s 9th customer and 12th supplier. Morocco is in turn the first commercial partner of Great Britain in the Maghreb. Finally, nearly 10% of Moroccan exports to the United Kingdom are food products.

15th Edition of SIAM

The 15th edition of SIAM continues this momentum since it is deployed over an area of 18 ha, including 11 ha covered, and should welcome 900,000 visitors, 1,400 exhibitors and 65 participating countries from five continents. In addition, it is organized around 10 different poles (Regions, institutions and sponsors, international, local products, machinery, products, agricultural supplies, livestock, feed, nature and life).

Without forgetting that it will host nearly 40 conferences on different themes related to the subject of publishing and agricultural news. In other words, this edition is part of innovation through the creation of a B2B hub, a real platform facilitating partnerships and commercial exchanges for a promising and prosperous agricultural sector. Moreover, the ambition of the 15th edition of SIAM is to support agriculture in its economic, societal and climatic transitions. The 14th edition had 850,000 visitors, 1,365 exhibitors, over 185,000 m2, 60 participating countries, 50 convention signatures, 35 trophies distributed. This means that the Salon is taking back its colors of yesteryear.

In other words, SIAM has become the catalyst for opportunities as evidenced by the above figures, but also a space for reflection on major themes. The theme chosen this year is the perfect illustration of this. In his speech, on the occasion of the launch conference of the African Forum of Sovereign Investors, on June 20, 2022 in Rabat, HM King Mohammed VI underlined “(…) While Africa is offered today unparalleled opportunities, particularly in the green economy, blue economy and digital sectors, our continent must continue its efforts to meet the multiple challenges related to its food and health sovereignty, its infrastructure needs and the development of its natural resources and wealth”.

The objective of food sovereignty is to increase the value of local agricultural production. It also aims to strengthen the social inclusion of farmers and workers, but also to facilitate access to generalized social protection, improved rural infrastructure and better working conditions thanks to technological tools. Finally, it is a question of intensifying efforts to strengthen the capacities of small farms for a fair and equitable sharing of value.

Today, thanks to these elements, SIAM is a moment of enthusiasm and is of particular interest. Moreover, during the press conference, Mr. Sadiki did not fail to emphasize that the return of the Agricultural Show, after 3 years of absence for health reasons, will be an opportunity to present the developments of the sector in Morocco, in particular those relating to the research and development and technologies component, as well as the “Green Generation 2020-2030” strategy.

For his part, the Commissioner of the Show said that SIAM is a real crossroads of exchanges and business to business meetings, an exhibition venue par excellence and a catalyst for business, before adding that he is positioning himself , to date, “as the first show in Africa and among the best in the sector in the world”.

For 5 days, according to him, exhibitors have the opportunity to showcase their products and promote their activities. We can only agree with him when he says that SIAM is also the right space to highlight everyone’s innovations in the different areas that make up the value chain of the agricultural sector. Indeed, exhibitors and all players in the sector benefit from the strength and influence of the Show to meet and establish fruitful contacts with customers, suppliers and decision-making partners.

As for the ambassador of the United Kingdom in Morocco, Simon Martin, he indicated that the presence of the United Kingdom as guest of honor at the Show will be an opportunity to present the British experience in this key sector ( read the three questions). The color of the 15th edition of SIAM has been announced and preparations are well underway.
