Antonio Valencia and Michael Carrick fly out with Manchester United squad to Dubai for mid-season training camp
Manchester United duo Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia are nearing a return to match action after being deemed fit enough to fly out with their team-mates for a mid-season training camp in Dubai.
Valencia, 32, has been out of action since December 17th when he limped out a 2-1 win against West Brom with a hamstring injury.
The Ecuador captain has been working hard in the gym to recover and Jose Mourinho confirmed last Friday that Valencia would be ‘back’ this week – meaning he’s likely to return against Stoke City on Monday.
Michael Carrick has managed just one appearance this season after feeling ‘strange’ during a League Cup clash with Burton Albion. The midfielder was diagnosed with an irregular heart rhythm that was subsequently treated with a cardiac ablation but he’s been deemed fit to step up his recovery.
Mourinho revealed after his side’s 2-0 win against Derby that the club had a trip to Dubai planned but it was dependent on Stoke City’s result against Coventry in the FA Cup.
United face the Potters next Monday but the game would have had to be rearranged if Mark Hughes’ men were forced into a replay.
Coventry beat the Potters 2-1 thanks to a late goal and Hughes was sacked, meaning United were able to take the trip.
