Six dogs saved from certain death in devastating Liverpool car park fire
The dogs are understood to have been left in the cars while the owners went to the Horse of the Year show at the venue. The event was cancelled and the arena was swiftly evacuated.
But heroic firefighters from six crews manage to save the dogs after extinguishing the blaze.
Somehow, none of the pets suffered serious injury and firefighters were able to reunite them with their owners.
‘I never thought i’d see my dogs again,’ said the owner of four of the canines, who did not want to be named.
The seven-storey building has been largely damaged and most of the cars destroyed, authorities said today.
‘Had the car park had sprinklers that would certainly have suppressed the fire and might even have extinguished the fire,’ Merseyside’s chief fire officer, Dan Stephens, told The Guardian.
‘There is nothing to suggest it was anything other than an accidental ignition. It’s a bit like Grenfell. The speed at which the fire spreads means you simply aren’t going to put it out.’
Authorities are encouraging anyone whose car was in the car park to contact their insurance companies.
